Take a 3D Virtual Tour on Youtube

St. Louis, Mo. (June 30, 2010)- As technology advances to meet the changing sustainable demands of society, so too do the skilled trades. These advancements took another large step forward on June 30, 2010, when Sheet Metal Workers’ Local 36 broke ground on its new $15 million LEED Platinum headquarters facility in St. Louis. “This new facility will help us remain on the cutting edge of technology,” said Local 36 President and Business Manager David C. Zimmermann. “It’s our duty to maintain and improve the industry that those before us have worked so hard to build, and this project shows our commitment to that purpose.”

What began as a dream in 2002 when Local 36 membership voted to begin contributing to a new building fund became a reality Wednesday as Local 36 staff, membership, business partners and local leaders met to break ground on the historic Chouteau Crossing development that will house the new meeting hall, training school and offices of the Local, as well as serve as the new home for DynaLabs LLC which will lease a portion of the space. “With this project, Local 36 joins the elite ranks of those with LEED certified buildings in the region and shows an incredible amount of commitment to the city of St. Louis by not only creating jobs to complete this project, but by assuring that its skilled workforce will receive the elite training needed to grow the industry in the future,” said St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay. Construction is now underway on the 96,000+ square-foot building that is recognized by the United States Green Building Council as tracking for LEED Platinum certification. Features of the new facility that will contribute to its LEED certification include:

Roof rain water collection/irrigation cistern system

Solar voltaic panels

Wind turbines,

Geothermal systems

Solar domestic hot water systems

The $15 million dollar project is expected to take between 10 and 12 months to complete and is receiving multiple state and federal tax incentives including the New Market Tax Credit, Business Energy Investment Tax Credit Grant and Brownfield Tax Credits. Partners in the project include Green Street Properties, Treanor Architects, G.S. & S. Construction, Solutions AEC, and Stock and Associates.
